    Let’s welcome fall

As the leaves are changing colors the cool wind sweeps them off their branches and into the air. As a child I always loved seeing a cloud of leaves playing in the wind. Even as of today I feel like a child again when I see that phenomenon again.

The colors of the leaves always bring me joy and good memories. That’s exactly why I wanted to give fall a warm welcome into our world. What better way than to dedicate an art piece to it.

Sharing fun with our loved ones

As my mom explained she wanted her birthday party to feel airy and positive, we came up with the idea to make a workshop. We wanted to make the conversations about our current experience playing with art.

We planted all kinds of art supplies on the table to inspire those who would join us. A side of snacks and drinks gave everything a nice and relaxed atmosphere.

Finding beauty in our harsh world

Traveling is like a to step through a portal into an other world. Exploring new places, finding joy and beauty with every step you take. Looking for the small things that make you smile. It can be a beautiful flower or just the way the sun shines through different structures.

When summer comes I usually try to do some traveling. This year I went to the landschaftspark in Duisburg Germany with my dad. It is an old factory which isn’t in use anymore. It is left untouched, so nature can take it over again.

    How to make watercolor paints.

As summer keeps us company and most of us go on holidays. I wanted to clear my mind to start my 2 weeks of time for myself. I have been watching a few videos about paint making and looked up some pigment information.

After picking out some non poisonous ingredients and special tools I was ready to start. I started my first batch on the first day of my vacation and was pleasantly surprised at how time flew by. It was really peaceful, without me thinking and pondering about things I had no control over at that moment

This is exactly why I wanted to share this diy gem with you guys.

    Let’s make a structured mess

We all want to let go of our strictness to ourselves, but even though you could just drop everything, it can be scary. A lot of people want to have a start point, a handle or a push in the back. It doesn’t have to be big, something small can give you a whole mountain of ideas.

With just a few simple products you can unlock limitless ideas and break those strict rules we hold ourselves to. For this exercise we are going to use: Acrylic paint sprays, a spray bottle of water, a hole punch or simple scissors, a piece of sturdy plastic and heavy card.

Think positive, be happy and create happiness

We like to collect little bits of happiness everywhere we go. Our travels, our work, our home, everywhere we can find little things that give us a good feeling.

When I look through a magazine I notice myself being drawn to certain images. Either the beauty of them catches my eye, or they make me feel a certain way. Whenever I see something that makes me feel happy, I want to look at it longer and more often.

    Everybody can make art

We live in a time when we are judged by our quality. When you make art it has to be beautiful and seem difficult to make. All I can do is wonder who makes those standards and who makes the rules of what’s beautiful and what’s not. The things I like and find beautiful might be different from the things you like.

The most important thing in art for me, is to see what’s special about the artist. How someone’s eyes see the world around him or her. A lot of artists are inspired by others, but you can always see their personality shining through their art.

For this post I was inspired by James Luke Burke on YouTube. He is an amazing artist who has a lot of influences from Jane Davenport. He always shares his art with others and encourages people to use his artwork to get inspired and create their own. A lot of the art he makes originates from collage work. The following piece is made with loose pieces of a body, head, legs etc. I stuck it on a background of acrylics I just dropped on the page.

    Positive prompts worksheet

As I was going down the rabbit hole that is the world wide web, I noticed that a lot of people have trouble starting to journal. The big bad blank page staring back at you intensely making you uneasy. It doesn’t make things easier.

I want to make it easier for you to start creating. So I made a worksheet for you all. You can print it out on any kind of paper and start you progress to positivity.

    The freedom of watercolors.

Our lives are fast and we need to keep running to keep up with all the changes. What if we want to stand still for a moment? What if we need to have a moment all to our self? What if we want the time to clear our mind and think of nothing?

At a moment like that I try to keep away from any electronics. Except for maybe some music. I like to gather my watercolors and don’t make anything. Just let the colors and fluids do what they want. I guide them to places where they can make beauty bloom. No set plan, no sketches and no drama.

    My favorite art supplies

Whether you want to make art or write in your journal, you will need some things to help you with that. It can be as simple as a pen or maybe you want something more challenging.

This week I want to share some of the tools I love and use a lot myself. I also want to share why I love these tools and what I use them for.
